There are three ways to deal with a hangover: either you´re under the age of 25 so you don´t even have to care about a hangover. Or you´re mature enough to know how to prevent a hangover. The third possibility is: you´re strong enough to survive a hangover.
We cannot fight back age, but we can provide you with the best tips on how to prevent / survive a hangover – in case you over boarded all good resolutions.
Eat! Alcohol absorbs faster on an empty stomach, so pregame with food. Did you know that the zinc from oysters or pumpkin seeds will actually help to detox your body?
At the party
Stay in the clear. Brown liquors, such as tequila, dark beer and red wine, contain a substance called congeners that give the drinks not only their flavor but also you a hangover. You better go for clear gin or vodka.
Hydrate. Have a glass of water with every drink. Liquor is a diuretic, so it dehydrates you which leads to headaches.
Play the numbers. Lower proof drinks mean less alcohol over the course of a long night. The order is easy: pilsner < lager < IPA < wine < sake < spirits.
Eat (once again!). Snack healthy fats such as walnuts or avocados to slow the absorption of alcohol.
After the party
Hydrate (again!). Make your last drink of the night a water.
Sleep in. Alcohol gives you a poor quality sleep, so you´ll need a lot of it. Wear something that doesn´t make you sweat, tilt open the window and darken the room.
Brunch smart. Alcohol and mixers are high in sugar, so a hangover is in large a sugar-crash! Eggs contain cysteine, an amino acid that counteracts acetaldehyde, an alcohol metabolite that is more toxic than alcohol itself. Refill your electrolytes with broth, bananas or a sports drink.
Drink coffee. Alcohol expands blood vessels, which causes headaches. A cup of coffee constricts arteries, helping relieve the pain.
Dress comfy. Wearing your favorite sweater will help you getting over the worst hangover – we promise.
