Stories | #OnTheRoad: Italy

We are certainly not ready for autumn yet! Want to continue your summer too? Come along with Sunita Ramic on a road trip through magnificient Italy! Caution: this article might give you serious wanderlust!

Our first stop is Castel Porrona, a small Tuscan village that we happened upon on our drive. It has been a long time since I saw such a charming village. You should definitely pay it a visit. We continued to Saturnia, having heard of their natural spring baths Cascate del Mulino, and let me tell you: it is the prettiest site I have ever visited!

A useful tip for all jewellery-lovers: please take them off first, as the sulphurous water of 37 degrees stains silver jewellery black.

There is a campsite located just outside the hot springs. Let’s put it like this, it has everything you need :-) Even a shuttle service to the springs. However, I would not recommend the campsite for tents as it has a gravel soil. You can also spend the night further up from the springs in the village of Saturnia.

The next stop is Amalfi, constructed in a narrow cove. Amalfi has a great flair, is a real must-see, and easy to reach from many other cities in the area with ferries (for around €30 return). Here, you will also find intercity buses that depart for Positano, Maiori, and Sorrento. I can particularly recommend a fab restaurant in Amalfi: The Trattoria da Barracca with its exceptionally attentive and charming staff.

Here, in Positano, you can live the real high life. Savour the wine-and-olive service on the beach or saunter along the glorious shop windows. The Hotel l’Ancora offers the best views of Positano, this is also where I took my pictures.

In Ravello, you must visit the Pizzeria Mimi. No excuses! They have one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture, my stomach beat my camera to it. Enjoy the beautiful panorama from the Villa Rufolo.

The Grotte della Poesia is a splendid place to take a dip and experience the fantastic blue water. It looks stunning, located right in the middle of the beach, a sort of hole in the ground. All of this you’ll find in Apulia, where life happens on the beach. This offers van drivers the opportunity to spend the night right by the sea.

In Riva del Garda, you will find those lovely, typically Italian small boutiques and a great restaurant called Albergo Ristorante La Montanara. Here, you can savour beautiful homemade pasta. Simply delicious!

Lake Prags in the Dolomites has rapidly turned into the place-to-be for Instagrammers. We followed suit and made this marvellous picture, even though it was only six degrees outside and the snow line got to 1,500 metres the day before.
